Portraiture

  • Portraiture is the art of taking portrait photos.
  • Posed photography is the subject poses for a period of time for the picture.
  • A candid photo is the opposite of posed, since the subject will be in natural pose/movement.

This is a posed portrait because it is a painted portrait.
The person is wearing a hat, a collared shirt and an under shirt.
I'm assuming the person is sitting because a painted portrait takes a long time.
The background has what looks like to me a wheat field kind of look.
The portrait is shallow depth of field since the background is not easily recognizable.
The lighting would be harsh light because there is some shadowing on the right side of the face.

Portrait photo plan
My subject will be Ben.
The photo will be posed.
Whatever he is wearing on that day.
Ben will be standing on the floor.
In the background will be the white board.
I will use shallow depth of field.
I will use the rule of thirds.

Hard Light
Silhouette
Soft Light

I choose to reflect on this photo because I think it turned out good and had good focus.
This photo is posed, you cant really tell but I told carter to put his hands on the door to make his shoulders look larger.
I used backlighting because the light surrounds the eges of his body and gives a cool look.
I had to use the door way and brick wall for the background because that was the only place to give off enough natural light.
No, portraits are not my favorite I prefer to shoot landscape photos.
